Oakley are a great example of a successful, innovative start-up. In 1975, James Jannard invested $300 into his motorbike grip business, which operated from his garage (interestingly, the material he used can still be found on the earsocks of Oakley glasses). Five years down the line, Jannard started selling goggles. With the famous Oakley logo present on the strap, the brand garnered increasing recognition and prominence throughout the sports industry. In 1983, Oakley began selling ski goggles. They were in the eyewear business to stay.
The first Oakley sunglasses were sport-oriented and were released in 1984. These were soon followed in 1985 by the Oakley Frogskins, a casual, stylish sunglass style that was made in Japan. These were some of Oakley's most popular frames - and still are to this day!
